Engineer for a Day 2024
In June 2024, The Sibley Center Makerspace successfully hosted an engaging Robotics and Engineering Camp for students ranging from elementary to high school levels. The camp aimed to foster creativity, innovation, and problem-solving skills. We had activities involving 3D printing, programming, and robotics competitions.
Throughout the camp, participants had the opportunity to work collaboratively on VEX robotics projects, learn fundamental programming concepts, and design and build their robots. We recruited two college interns, two high school interns, and three STEM teachers from local South Bend Community Schools to teach the basics of mechanical design, electrical systems, and autonomous programming.
The camp culminated in a series of friendly competitions where students in elementary school and middle school competed in Vex IQ, and two high school teams competed in Vex V5 VRC. This not only allowed participants to demonstrate their technical abilities but also encouraged sportsmanship, teamwork, and resilience in the face of challenges.
